Trip Report – Lake Naivasha, A Day Tour

Trip Report – Lake Naivasha, A Day Tour

How great is it when a loved ones member or mate moves overseas for a position prospect? Instantly, queries of wherever to go for the subsequent holiday break are solved and that unique place turns into significantly much more very affordable (as you “reside like a local”). Perfectly I’ve been dwelling in Kenya for just about seven yrs and my mothers and fathers lastly took gain of the predicament just previous 12 months. Freda, on the other hand, is at present executing a four-week residency at a medical center north of Nairobi and her mom, sister and brother-in-legislation designed the trek from the United states of america final week to pay a visit to her and expertise Kenya.

But it wasn’t Freda who organized the working day journey her sister, Novem, connected with us. We planned a excellent working day of strolling safaris and a boat trip – ideal activities for great Kenyan temperature. However it was November, when Kenya has less than best weather conditions, and it grew to become prudent to approach a rainy day choice. It would also be an exciting and entertaining day, but with functions that would be bearable in a drizzle (but not a storm!). Kenya is surely a good climate spot!

We agreed to make your mind up which itinerary to go with when we fulfilled on the day and would inspect the clouds with each other. The forecast mentioned there was a 100% chance of rain in Naivasha, but our nearby information on the lake shore assured us the sky was distinct. So we took the probability and headed to the lake.

Hells Gate National Park

The 1st prevent was Hells Gate Nationwide Park. The team opted to walk as a substitute of embarking on the a lot more common biking journey. On foot or on a bike, Hells Gate has some breathtaking surroundings and rock formations to marvel at. And animals of course – they noticed waterbuck, elands, zebras, buffalos, a secretary hen, impala, Thomson’s gazelle and so a lot of warthogs.

Soon after the early start off and the hike, they ended up unquestionably ready for lunch which we savored at a standard cafe in 1 of the lakeside villages. The chef had geared up a choice of dishes so they could test a bit of every little thing. We experienced beef stew, chicken, fish from the lake (Tilapia), rice, chapattis, ugali, zikuma wiki, and kachambari.

Just after the feast it was time to wander once more. This time we drove about the lake to Wileli Conservancy where there are a whole lot extra animals than in Hells Gate. There are not many predators in the Naivasha region, and so the herbivores can graze in relative peace and humans can mingle with them… to an extent. As perfectly as zebras, elands and impalas (which had been acquiring unexciting now) the household observed giraffes. It is so remarkable acquiring close to giraffes when you are on foot. You can see precisely how tall they are, but so gentle and sleek.

As we travel to and from Wileli Conservancy, we go by a wildlife corridor, which must be my favourite kilometre of road in the entire of East Africa. And this day was in particular amazing! We observed a great deal of animals as we passed by: giraffes, impalas, elands, zebras and warthogs. And the great detail was they had been all grazing together in a Garden of Eden-fashion environment. Commonly you see teams of like animals alongside one another it is less widespread to see lots of species all together.

The grand finale of the day was a boat excursion on Lake Oloiden. This tiny lake is adjacent to Lake Naivasha with a 5 metre inlet/outlet separating the two. The enjoyment point about these lakes is that Naivasha is fresh when Oloiden is salty. This is the boat ride you just take if you want to see hippos, which they absolutely did.

Novem, Chris, Freda and Lek, it was superb to shell out the working day with you. And a handful of times later on in Nairobi Countrywide Park. We hope to see you all over again… for a more time safari up coming time!
